Innovation Showcase 09

Start with an idea; finish with a viable business. Unfortunately traveling from A to B won’t be a straight path. Innovation journeys are filled with contingencies, set-backs and detours. • Planning the Route: learn about the programs and resources that can help you be innovative
  • Departures: learn about discoveries and inventions at McMaster that are ready to commercialize
  • In Transit: hear from businesses and investors who are collaborating with McMaster
  • Arrivals: meet the innovators who navigated the path successfully
  • Break Bread with Fellow Travelers: your registration includes breakfast, lunch and a reception on both days

  • Plenary Speaker: Bob Young; co-founder of Red Hat, the global leader in enterprise Linux; founder and CEO of digital publishing; and owner of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats
  • Keynote Speaker: The Honourable John Wilkinson, Ontario’s Minister of Research and Innovation, will place the showcase in the context of Ontario's Innovation Agenda
  • Plenary Speaker: W. Daniel Mothersill, President, National Angel Capital Organization
  • Ten Innovative Attractions: short presentations about commercialization ready technologies from McMaster University, ranging from engineering and medicine to psychology and multimedia
  • Guides and Outfitters: a series of panels and workshops will teach you how to  leverage government funding, utilize innovation support services, and understand the early-stage investor climate
  • Traveling Companions: a special focus on contract research and the benefits it brings to both academic and industry partners
  • Billboards: poster competition, featuring commercialization ready technologies from McMaster and Mohawk students and faculty
  • Rest Stops: each day closes with a reception, allowing you to meet your fellow innovation travelers

The 2009 show will also feature:

  • McMaster Innovator Awards
  • A special "Working Together" workshop focusing on the programs at McMaster which support local enterprise (and economic development in Ontario)
  • Registration includes breakfast, lunch and a reception on both days
